Contest Brief

NOTE: WE"RE NOT LOOKING FOR A MIX OF THE SONG WITH EFFECTS LIKE REVERB AND COMPRESSION! WE'RE LOOKING FOR A NEW TRACK THAN ENHANCES THE ARRANGEMENT WITH NEW IDEAS THAT MAY BE PARTIALLY REUSING EXISTING TRACKS. DON"T JUST MIX THE SONG, ADD SOMETHING NEW TO IT!

We’re a band looking for a talented and creative sound engineer to add effects to our rock song. No professional mixing/production experience required - what we need are your great ideas. We’ll take care of mixing.

Your task is to create one or more additional tracks with effects. You can:

* Take existing instruments and process them in creative ways: cut and paste, add delay, shift pitch, equalize, fade etc.
* OR Add short parts with new musical instruments of your choice (e.g. strings, choir).
* OR Add royalty free samples of your choice (e.g. explosion, coins fall, people arguing).
* OR Combine all the above.

Contest entry: submit an mp3 of the demo mix. We’ll only evaluate your creativity and talent, not the quality of mix. A professional engineer will mix the song after the contest.

Contest winner: once we’ve selected a winner, we may ask for a few small adjustments. After that you’ll submit your tracks as WAVs.

    #27 by Francisco: incredible guitar licks throughout the whole song,

    #18 by Tatjana: strobe effect with BPM different from song’s BPM, sound design in the middle of chorus (bass slide, explosion), synths in transition to post-chorus, additional drums in 2nd chorus, explosions, idea for sound design around final “too bad!”, cyber-punk vibe of the outro, synth melody in the outro,

    #24 by Gelu: transition to chorus design: synths/samples, and delay+reverb on “FACE”; one-off synth notes; drums around "read them off my fist"; creativity of sound design of chorus.

    We’ve analyzed all the entries and decided to award #16 by Brogan T. Congratulations!

    It had an overall vibe that worked well for the song, and was very rich with creative ideas. The ideas we found to be interesting and well implemented are: sound design of the pre-intro (door bell, footsteps etc), transition from radio vox to normal vox in guitar intro, strobe guitars in verse, distorted vox, chorus attack, vox delay in chorus, guitar strobe in verse 2, equalization of vox in verse 2, crescendo of whirling effect in final “too bad”, bass sound after outro.

    Note to all participants: we're not looking for a mix of the song with effects like reverb and compression! We're looking for a new track added to our arrangement (e.g. keyboard track, strings track, effects track) than enhances the arrangement with new ideas that may be partially reusing existing tracks. Please don't just mix the song, add something new to it!
