Contest Brief

Additional feedback: I really like the entries that are using the mountain but also incorporating some sci-fi elements such as a different kind of sky in the background. Some element of duality would be good as the book is about parallel worlds very similar to ours but one is on a different geo-political path. Something to bring in a sense of mystery or intrigue...

I would like a design for a science fiction book that I authored. It is my first book and I'm going to self-publish by simply getting it printed. So I have to submit the artwork in a specific format. I would like the source and the PDF conversion of the file.

Technical Requirements:
1. Use attached template and stick to the precise measurements.
2. Color profile must be: North American General Purpose 2, with CMYK set to U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2. See https://www.copywell.com/copywell-help-center/artwork-colour-profiles
3. Use 100% black
4. 1/8″ or 0.125″ or 3mm of bleed where applicable (e.g. top, bottom, left, right)
5. Save as a PDF with trim marks and bleed. See https://www.copywell.com/copywell-help-center/bleed-setup/

Creative:
1. The book features an actual location in present day. Refer to https://frankslide.ca/ for information or ideas. One idea is a drawing or picture of the mountain (after the rock slide).
2. Keep it minimal, not cluttered.
3. Just the title and author on the spine
4. The book’s main characters are IT consultants.
5. The book is about parallel worlds – one is named Alpha and the other is Beta. The “Divide” refers to the division between the worlds.
6. Attached is the book synopsis for the back cover.
7. Need to leave space for ISBN and a small “About the Author” blurb on the back (about 1/3 of the page at the bottom for both of these should be sufficient). I will provide these before the contest wraps up.

      The Beta world is our world. The Alpha world is similar, but at a point after WWII an international government formed that was successful in controlling leadership so that war and human rights violations were uncommon. Alpha knew of Beta's existence but not vice versa. Alpha began exploiting the Beta world in many ways. A group of Alpha people are working towards ending the practice of using Beta as a "test world".
