Contest Brief

We would like to make a research lab logo. Please visit our lab webpage: http://environment.snu.ac.kr/ (Google: Environmental Ecology Lab @ SNU) There you could find most useful information on the lab. Minimally, you have to check and understand contents "About Us" in the webpage. Check our Vision and Mission statements.

We wish the logo to reflect more than three factors among 1) simplicity, 2) unexpectedness, 3) concreteness, 4) credibility, 5) emotion, and 6) story.

We study global terrestrial ecology. We integrate field observation, satellite remote sensing, ecosystem models to understand past and future of global carbon and water cycles. So don't include chemical lab contents such as beaker, pipettes etc. We do study at the interface of soil, plants, and atmosphere. We study interactions between biosphere and atmosphere.

2016 Aug 6: PLEASE DON"T INCLUDE FLASK, BEAKER, PIPETTES etc (chemical lab equipment) IN THE LOGO. Those logos won't be selected. We are not chemical lab. We are the global ecology lab who studies water, carbon and energy fluxes using satellite remote sensing, eddy flux tower, and field measurements. 2016 Aug 7: Thank you for joining this contest. I see overall logos converged to several icons which include leaf, water and Earth. Now I realize that those logos are not clearly distinguishable. To strengthen identity of the lab, I'd like to recommend including some of those factors: 1) vegetation-atmosphere interactions in carbon and water fluxes which is the key theme in the lab, 2) satellite remote sensing which is the key tool in the lab, 3) upscaling from leaf to the globe, from past to the future, which we cover in spatial and temporal scales, 4) Internet of Things which delivers ecological information through small sensors in real time. Those form our vision, "A sustainable world where ecological information is available and accessible to anyone." You don't have to reflect all in details, but I hope the winner logo will clearly show the identity of the lab.

2016 Aug 9: I have rejected all entries that included chemical lab instruments or house which were not related to our lab activities.
