Contest Brief

Graphic designer to create characters for my kids book. It will have 6-8 different scenes.

***For the contest you can just design a couple of characters and 1 background. I want to see who can provide the best quality and style. The rest of the project will provide additional compensation per scene

It involves a girl around 5-6 years old. Ideally I would like her to look a little Indian, strong but not too chubby.
Big glasses that sit on the edge of her upward sloping nose
shoulder length hair (no ponytails)

Her mother: again strong looking (not fat or thin), no glasses, She is a scientist. so is wearing salwar suit (you can search in good image) with a white lab coat.

A monster: entirely made of springs. not too scary...with eyes hanging over his head with springs...funny hairstyle (again of spring)

The different scenes would involve a class room, soccer playground, a cave and a house with a lab


I have attached sample pics to show the kind of 'style' I prefer.

The little girl is the main character of the story.
1st scene is her in the class. her glasses slip down to the edge of her nose. she then lifts her head to see clearly through them on the board.
2nd scene is her playing soccer with her friends in the playground. when the monster jumps on the field.
3rd scene is her at home with her mom in her mom's science lab

For the contest you can choose create any one of these scenes


I have added two more samples...sample 5 gives an idea of how the girl should look like (but please add the glasses)...similar facial features, dress style, and similar hairstyle. sample 1-4 show example of the art style

Most entries I am getting have very similar faces that look like every other story book character. I want it to be recognisable...please try to create a distinct face and the clothes too don't have to be exactly the same...I had the sample to just show the style of clothes. Please try to put your unique touch to it...Lets create something new!

    I like the style but all faces look like every other story book character. I want it to be recognisable...please try to create a have a distinct face and the clothes too don't have to be exactly the same...I had the sample to just show the style of clothes

    Does the entire contest include three character designs, 5-6 scenes with backgrounds? Because $100 dollars for all that is with no guarentee that all the work will result in being selected as the winner is a bit rough. Or is the contest to design the three characters to show that I can provide the quality and style you require and the rest of the project will provide additional compensation per scene? Making the contest more of a tryout.
