Contest Brief

I have set up my own consultancy company called 'CIH Research' and I need a logo for it.

It is a professional services company specialising in providing the following business-to-business services to the automotive industry:

1. Market research;
2. Consulting;
3. Insight/Analysis;
4. Opinion/commentary.

The logo needs to be professional looking, clean, not cluttered, the logo itself needs to be distinctive, and have a strong enough identity that it can stand alone without the company name being included if the logo is separate to the company name (i.e. the company must be clearly identifiable by the thumbnail image, letterhead or business card logo).

I'm thinking the simplicity and strength of branding that is associated with the logos of companies such as Nike, Apple, Android, Amazon, Microsoft etc...

If the logo and company name are separate in the submitted design, the font for the company name must be simple and elegant, not fussy or cluttered (no comic sans!)

I do not want any special effects (i.e. 3D renders, heavy use of drop shadowing, embossing etc), it should be 2D.

I would like the colour scheme to be pleasing to the eye, incorporating a shade of orange if possible and it would be a bonus if the colour scheme is also colour blind friendly, but this is not mandatory.

The logo will be used for the company website, letterheads, business cards and other digital media (online profiles etc) so it needs to be able to contrast well against a flat white background.

Please avoid scientific themes. My company provides market intelligence and specialises in the AUTOMOTIVE industry (i.e. Cars and trucks). I will not pick any logo that has test tubes or atom-themed logos.

Also, please avoid clichés. No magnifying glasses or obvious icons, I am looking for subtlety.

The themes the logo should/could convey are:

1. Professional services;
2. Insight/intelligence;
3. Data;
4. Global reach;
5. Automotive.

The logo should not include all of the above if this compromises the logo design.

Also, regarding automotive, a subtle gesture (i.e. use of automotive components like pistons and con-rods, brake discs, etc) rather than simply a picture of a car would be preferable.

    Please can submissions avoid using more traditional font designs for the lettering in the logo design. I will favour designs that avoid fonts that are similar to 'Times New Roman' an use cleaner elegant font styles.

    I should stress that the logo should not include ALL of the above, if this compromises the logo design. Please pick and choose and explain your choice(s).

    Also, regarding any automotive references, a subtle gesture (i.e. use of automotive components like pistons and con-rods, brake discs, etc in the logo or lettering) rather than simply a picture of a car would be interesting to see.
