Contest Brief

Position Overview:

We are seeking Text Simplification Specialists to participate in a project aimed at adapting complex English literature into four levels of simplified text. Our AI application is designed to make classic literature accessible to a broader audience, ranging from children under 10 to young adults, or non-native speakers. We invite specialists in education, linguistics, and literature to join us in refining and perfecting our outputs. Your expertise will help ensure that each level of simplification maintains the narrative's integrity, engagement, and readability appropriate for its target age group.

Responsibilities:

-Evaluate the appropriateness of text complexity for designated age groups.
-Assess the preservation of key themes and narrative flow across simplification levels.
-Provide feedback on language use, readability, and engagement.
-Offer constructive recommendations for enhancing text accessibility without compromising the reading experience.
-Provide an improved text output to the one we have provided

Qualifications:

-Experience in education, linguistics, children's literature, YA literature, developmental psychology, AI, or related fields.
-Strong understanding of language development and text simplification principles.
-Ability to analyze literary content and assess readability for various age groups.
-Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide detailed, constructive feedback.
-Preferred if based in the United States or United Kingdom, also a native english speaker.

We used an excerpt from a book for the original text, level 1 will be the most advanced level of simplification, while level 4 will be the most simplified level.

Level 4 should be aimed at children under 10.
The orignal text should be assumed to be aimed at advanced english readers.
The difficulty benchmark between the levels should be evenly distributed

Once you have given us feedback, we will adjust the outputs for each level.
