Hand Drawn Illustration

Contest Brief

I am looking for someone to create an illustration for a fantasy character from my novel.
The character is a half man half wild boar.

The approaching man was not big but he was muscled like a cart horse, and his stride was strong and confident. “This is private property.” He said, and as he got closer Micah noticed that what he had taken for facial hair were in fact tusks protruding from his lower jaw. He had prominent neck muscles which stood out making a triangle between his head and shoulders which were half as wide again as an average man’s. The bristly hair on his head was shaved near bald save for a stripe down the centre which was long and silver tipped despite his youthful appearance. His small brown eyes were specked with gold and suggestive of a sharp intellect.

“It’s a very beautiful place you have here.”

“The terrarium’s over there if that’s why you’ve come,” he said nodding in the direction of the manor house and stroking the whiskers which grew along his jawline. Then, taking an apple from his pocket, he bit noisily into it and began chewing enthusiastically. “It’s a restricted area, you won’t be allowed to just walk in,” he said around a mouthful of fruit.

“Actually I was wondering if you might be able to offer some advice.”

“I’m just the groundskeeper,” he said, but he had the confidence of the lord of the manor.

“I’m not from around these parts,” Micah said.

“Then you’ll be turning around.”

“I’m collating some unusual species of flora.” Micah took out a note book and began scribbling something down.

“If you’ll excuse me then, I have some Whispering Weigelias that need my attention.” He turned his broad back on Micah and began walking away.

Micah followed pushing the notepad under the groundskeeper’s nose.

“Well if you put it that way…,” he said a smile cutting across his long face and his ears twitching, “Wilbur,” he said holding out his hand which was as wide as it was long and pressing Micah’s hand between his thumb and fingers, “why do you want to get in there so bad?”

Micah took his hand back massaging his crushed knuckles,“I need to get hold of a little plant by the name of Corydalis Hemidicentra,”

“The camouflage plant?” Wilbur said, and his brown eyes turned to slits as he scrutinised Micah, “and you think I can help you?”

    Is your novel high fantasy? Is the setting in a fantastical world or in modern times? Just curious.

      It is fantasy but in a modern setting. Challenging to write and research. But we are enjoying the process.
