Neuron Graphic Design

Contest Brief

I need a 35cm X 15cm graphic designed. It should be neuron themed and black on white similar to the "star" image below (the neurons should be black on a white background). Please use the 'star' image as reference, as it is closest to what I want. I would like it less "busy" (i.e. fewer background neurons). It would be nice if it could look slightly more like a neuron (something like the 1e21 image). I've added a few more for inspiration. This is for a wrap around arm tattoo, so keep that in mind. I'm looking forward to seeing the designs!

Thank you all for participating! This was tough, in the end I chose the entry that was closest to the specific request There were many good designs. I was disappointed that there wasn't a way to tip small amount to other who I feel added to the contest. For example, Marjan, Domagoj, Olen, Ritzio, Omar M all added some great input and/or designs. At then end Grady's was closest what I envisioned. I hope to make a few changes to improve that design. However, if anyone has any other images they want to submit, I'd be happy to think about them.

Really some great efforts! I'm going to wait out the last few hours for any final entries, then I'll take a look tonight and decide. I will be giving small rewards to 2nd and 3rd place... plus an additional bonus to one person who I feel contributed a lot. I'm then hoping to work with a few people to refine their work to be 100% complete. I hope that sounds fair, I I wish I could reward everyone who submitted, unfortunately, I'm not rich :(

For me it is all about competing + experimenting with new design techniques and post-processing. Some interesting results came along the way and I learned a thing or two :D

More than fair. I fully agree with Marjan and would just add that we'll be one great contest experience and you one tattoo richer. So it's a win/win ;) Cheers!

This was an improving and challenging contest for myself. I didn't know that much about generating custom seamless brushes on Illustrator and blending effects with custom contour profiles on Photoshop before. But now i feel myself qualified on generating seamless orderly organic designs. Worked pretty experimental.

Wow, just reviewed the entries... getting really close and some awesome designs coming together... going to be very hard to choose. I hope there's a way I can "tip" second and third place as well. I want to compensate a couple people for their efforts, even if they don't win the contest.

You can always buy off as many entries as you want. There's a price for each entry but you can name your own and this can act as a tip. I agree with you, there's some really nice entries showing up.

Marjan, the #35 entry reminds me of some of the "black work" and X-ray tattoos that I"ve seen and think look pretty amazing, I'm going to post a couple sample images of what I'm referring too. I was going to get something similar for the other arm.

Wow, some cool designs coming around! Since you guys are so creative, I'm going to post what this image will be attached to (check out the image I uploaded called "Tattoo"). I think I've given some direction and comments over what I'm looking for. But I'm open to other neuron ideas that would integrate well.

BTW the idea is to go from something more chaotic and organic into a network pattern (this doesn't show up as well in this pic), and then more and more symmetrical. I think I'm going to call it "From Neurons to Nirvana"

It's just a hand sketch but let me know if you like the general idea to process it further. Cheers.

Contest holder, I like Olena's entry. She did a good job on that one. With her permission and your request I could take her design and post process it like I did for my entries (specially #35 ) then show you how it would look. I would do this not to compete though, it would count as her entry only :)

Can anyone try making a pattern similar to #43 , #33 but using a similar structure as #23 (which is basically the "star" image I uploaded) ?

Hi. Thanks for all the entries so far. I have uploaded a couple more pictures for inspiration. Check out "NEWEST1" and "NEWEST2". When I look at all of them.. I think a combination of "NEWEST1" with the "Star" image I updated would be the closest to what I want. In other words something that looks like a neutron but also has an artistic side (i.e. the cool line work), but is not so crowded.

I'm really starting to love this logic that vectorizing the pictures that uploaded to the contest as for inspiration and uploading them as a design. I surely don't think but wonder if this worked out for anybody :D

I can guarantee that I won't be awarding it to someone that just altered one of the images I posted. I am looking at something similar, but original (and better).

I commented on a few. Looks like some are getting pretty close to what I'm looking for. The major comments so far are typically about the following 1) Too busy (for example too much going on in the background). 2) Looking for something more symmetrical (the design has to look like a neuron, but not EXACTLY like one). In the original sample I uploaded the "star" design is pretty close to what I want, just want it to look a bit more like a neutron and be less busy. 3) I tend to like designs that look less like "tentacles" and more like slightly wavy lines. I hope this helps, I'll post a few more sample images

Hi, thanks for the entries! Be sure to look at the samples I gave. It really needs to be a clean design, the first image I referenced is the closest to what I want. But read my feedback on it.

Hello there! I just started to working on and will upload mine soon. I think you need a seamless design for side edges because as you said it's an arm wrapping tattoo so i'm going to make it seamless.
