Contest Brief
I work for a radio ministry and need illustrative cover artwork for our "Word to the Wise" program. This will go on CD's, Website, and so on. Please do not upload logo ideas or clip-art. I'm a sketch artist myself and have seen far too many cheap 10-minute photoshop mash-ups posted here. If you're an artist, interested in a conceptual painting project, I welcome your imagination! But I'll reject everything that is copied or made cheaply.
We have already decided on a few concepts we like and are looking for the most interesting way of conveying it. Preferably, this will be something whimsical and most probably a painted image (Notes below). I'm attaching references for both ideas.
The first basic concept is to have a sign-post (tree, fence post, etc.) that has a lot of different tattered signs. 5-12 possibly. Each sign will have some words like: "Family, Marriage, Prayer, Devotion, Faith, Church, Worship, Charity, Parenting, Money, Integrity, Truth."
(Options) Painted images (Watercolor, Digital, Oil, Acrylic)
1. We'd love to see a whimsical, handpainted interpretation of this scene. Abstract, inventive ideas are great, but simplicity is also key. I've uploaded Reference Images 8-13 to give you ideas of the basic painterly styles we are looking for. Image #9 is a painting from one of my children's books. I added the words myself. These are just ideas.
2. You could paint a scene following reference image 16 of a pilgrim (with a sack on his back) walking across a whimsical hill passing by signs on the way. This can be a more abstract concept. This would be a profile scene.
3. A pilgrim could be climbing up a series of suspended steps, and each step bears a name (such as the titles listed above: i.e. Charity, Family, Marriage, Truth, etc.)
There are many interesting ways to convey all of this and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Thank you!
