I am starting a new web development project and want to get the workflow right from the start. I have not used GitHub before and I am using GitHub Desktop. I would like someone with a lot of experience using git that can answer my questions and help me get started.

I would like to create a piece of Software, which allows allows user defined actions to be performed based on conditional inputs. Consider https://ifttt.com. It automates actions based on inputs from multiple sources (twitter, Facebook etc). I would like a similar but much simpler version as a Desktop App. Simpler because it only needs to use one input (A Pusher Stream), and only need to perform one type of action (POST /GET) Requests.

I live in Phoenix, AZ USA and want to play DFS ie. draftkings/FanDuel but AZ is one of the seven or so "banned" states.
