Hi There, I hope you read this I'm sure I'm not the first bidder to offer my commiserations for your experience. I'm a new Freelancer (my account is old but I recently decided to give it another go). On the first job I did, I had a similar experience to yours, though it was a much shorter project and only cost me a day's work. I'm not saying I did a great job (the text was a mess and the content was AWFUL, so I just did what I thought my time was worth and sent it) but I received the same silent treatment and the same response from Freelancer. The employer for that one is called HeinzMarti The thing I want to say to you is don't give up. I'm pouring a lot of effort into this, and have been rewarded with two very decent experiences (employers Charis and johnwhitestar) which have been worth my time, effort and skill. If you keep going, you'll be able to claw your way up the bid lists, score some long-term collaborations, make some money and remove the need to get involved with low-paying or non-paying assholes. Just keep writing good bids and you'll get there. A caveat: Do keep your eyes open to other options too.
