How to make a draft room in our house
Measuring
The first step to any floor plan, no matter how simple or complex, is measuring the existing space. If you're drafting the interior of a space, measure the length of each wall, the distance of any doors and windows from the wall and the width of any windows or doors. Measure the distance from the wall to any permanent architecture in the room, such as columns or built-in counters, unless these will be removed. If you're drafting the floor plan of an entire building, measure the exterior of the building as well.
Scale
Decide what scale you want to draft your room in. The most commonly used scales for hand-drawn plans are 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch because they can easily fit on standard paper. Using an architecture scale ruler, identify the side of the ruler that contains the scale you want to use, which will be labeled accordingly.
Draw the Room
Using the scale ruler as a guide, draw out the walls on a piece of paper. Use a pencil so that you can correct mistakes and a straight edge for more accuracy. Don’t use the edge of the scale ruler as your straight edge because the small marks in the ruler will cause imperfections in your drawing. If you're drawing an entire building, add 6 inches of thickness for the walls.
