Tweak the firmware of a portable mp3 player

I have an old small mp3 player and I'd like to keep using it.

It works fine, but there's one firmware tweak I'd like to do if possible.

The player can now play audio files only if they are copied through a dedicated Windows software.

What this software does is change the extension from .mp3 to .kxm and probably some kind of modification of the file header.

So if I copy the files with Windows Explorer into the player, they won't play.

Not even if I change the extension from mp3 to kxm (that's why I assume the program modifies the file somehow too).

This software can be installed and run only on Windows XP.

What I need to do is tweak the player's firmware (obviously it's compiled code, no open source), so that it can play the usual mp3 files, instead of checking for the kxm extension or the particular modified header.

I can provide the firmware, the Windows program (if needed) and also access via TeamViewer when the player is connected to PC by USB (in case necessary).

### Deliverables ###

- The tweaked driver to be newly installed on the player

- Explanations about the tweaking.

Dear Mr, It looks like somewhat fun project. Would you provide that software for copying the kxm? I would like to examine it first. Thank you, regards.
