We are currently seeking an experienced freelance Wind Farm Design and Engineering Consultant to assist with the detailed design of the internal grid for our wind farm project. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of wind farm infrastructure, cable installation, surge arrestor selection, grid code compliance, cable trench dimensioning, load flow analysis, earthing system design, fault current calculations, insulation coordination, and protection coordination and selectivity.

Responsibilities:

Study requirements: The contractor’s design must adhere to all local laws, applicable standards, and local TSO/DSO regulations. Design studies must be based on DigSilent Power Factory simulation software, with all models submitted to the employer after study completion.

Grid Code compliance study: Perform an analysis to ensure Wind Power Plant (WPP) performance aligns with local TSO/DSO Grid Code requirements.

Cable trench dimensioning study: Ensure the adequate thermal dimensioning of cables in a trench, considering several factors such as flat/trefoil formation, laying depth, bare/duct installation, ground temperature, thermal resistivity, and spacing between cables.

Load Flow analysis study: Conduct a comprehensive study of the WPP's extreme operation points, including the worst-case thermal loading and voltage variation range.

Earthing system design study: Analyze worst-case touch and step voltages to evaluate the need for additional protection measures and confirm the adequacy of earthing conductor sizing.

Fault current calculations: Carry out minimum and maximum three-phase short circuit current calculations at every internal node of the WPP.

Insulation coordination study: Identify any potential overvoltage stresses and propose measures for transient limitation.

Protection coordination and selectivity study: Plan and coordinate protection measures across the WPP, including main and back-up protection of individual wind turbines, substation, and relevant TSO/DSO.
