hello, I am looking for someone good in electronics for some advice about a project i am working on. Its about "automatic change over switches" (also called "automatic switch over") This is very simple, basically I have 2 power sources (240v each - which are always both online) and need an automatic change over switch to go from 1 source to the other when one fails. I found such switch but the problem is that when switching from 1 source to the other theirs a slight downtime (1 second) - this downtime is what i need to avoid.(because the applicants i'm powering the computers, and they restart with such slight downtime) i was UNABLE to find a switch without any downtime. (could you guide me if you know any such switch exist?) an idea: maybe a solution would be to include a capacitor before the load, so that during the slight downtime the load have electricity? note: so far, the only solution i know of is to get a ups before the load (ie: during the switchover downtime the load will be powered by a ups) - but i want to avoid this solution, its way overkill for my setup. this bid is for me to ask you questions about the above setup thanks for bidding! jo

G'day, What your looking for is an ATS.... There are two basic types of designs, Solid State or relays, depeding on your load requirements... If they use Relays, then theirs is at laetsa 1/2 cyucle of 10mS delaybefore switching, and then a 'pull in' delaye from the relay which is the "make before break" situation. There are reasons why this is done and is generally required because... ( I'll finsih this when I am awarded the job...) PS, I own a commercially builld ATS, and have also built my own versions,... ;) My bid is just a palceholder so we can chat... Look at my profile and my normal rates of $75USD per hour, adn my feedback at thos rates... I know what I am talking about re ATS... ;) I can conuslt to you for the bid value / 1/2 hr or so, adn we cna then take it from there to see what I can do for you, Cheers,

You need 2 solid state relays like SSR10 or similar that have a switch velocity of 1..2 mS They are driven by a dc command voltage (3..4v). Basically you need a circuit that test the presence of the two main supply and decide wich of two output.
