Hello, I need to re-design a temperature sensor, a RTD-100. The current design is based on a microchip AN687 (figure 5, page 4). The issue is that the sensor probe is used under an electromagnetic field, i.e. an induction heater. And that the IC used in our design tends to fail when the sensor probe is placed inside the magnetic field. Literrature indicates that RTD-100 are safe to use in electromagnetic environment, with few noise. The isse comes most likely from the signal conditionning path. We are looking at redesigning the sensor, signal conditionning path to make it more robust, and, if possible, simpler. We only need a 1°C precision. Temperature range is 0°C to 350°C.

hi, proper PCB design by taking ground loops and Common mode noise in account, is required. Then comes signal conditioning with proper filtering from the switching frequency of the induction heater device.

I am expert in Instrumentation and Control and I can help in this Project. I have already done similar work in a Power Plant in Pakistan. I can suggest equipments, make diagrams, Provide instructions to program the controller used to display temperature sensed by RTD and also setup threshold setting to operate 3 output relays according to requirement.

I save you your money. Find a different method: NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS - INDUCTION HEATING only works because it uses a constantly changing magnetic field to interact with a METALLIC object. Effectively it is nothing more than an AC powered electro-magnet. By changing the frequency and power you simply melt the core of the electro-magnet. You are blowing your sensor electronics because the wires in the RTD are simply acting like an antenna and feeding the AC power signal straight into the electronics. This is actually very dangerous because if you form a ground loop you risk either producing a very high current or a very high voltage. Its the same reason you have to be very careful mounting Toroidal inductors and transformers. Before you hurt yourself talk to a proper engineer
