Hardware is open, whatever, Raspberry is just an idea. Micropython is another option. It would be great to have touch screen to show some data like: - work order - time - time elapsed (since start of work) - speed of machine - meters runned It must have ethernet/network capabilities to communicate with influxdb server and few inputs Inputs: - fast input for rotary encoder. Rotary encoder wheel is positioned on roller of machine to pick up speed - few other inputs are buttons, so the operator can select what is doing - one input (usb/whatever) is for bar code scanner. Operator need to scan bar code of work order, software will than send send update to database which job is operator working on Buttons are to select which type of work is operateor doing at the moment. Example, yellow for preparing, red for problem, blue for pause. When machine is running above 10m/mini it automaticly goes to "running" and deselects all previous states. ALl this should be sent to influxdb in real time: - changes work order when it is changed - realtime speed - selected type of work Processing of database info is different job. Hope it is better now. Few remarks i came up with: - Voltage the hardware is running is bit important. Some encofders need 5V, some 12V some 24V. Raspberry is 3.3-5V so that is a bit of hassle. Best option is to make something kind of prototype/custom to have sensors @ 24V and keep Raspberry at it's voltage. - at the end, all this should be in one box with screen on one side and some kind of console with buttons.
