-Provide a method of standardization
-Provide a profile of a firm’s economic characteristics and competitive strategies
-Should be used in combinations with other elements of financial analysis
Four categories of financial statement analysis ratios:
-Activity ratios: Asset management and efficiency
-Liquidity ratios: Short term solvency
-Profitability ratios: Overall efficiency and performance
-Solvency (Debt) ratios: Debt financing and coverage
