Yendor’s Call for Artist
The premier arts boutique in the city of Newark, New Jersey, Yendor provides both Visual / Performing Arts to under served communities. Led by Executive Director Rodney Gilbert, Yendor manages Newark’s Mural Program, MuralED, and the Abandoned Lots Arts Project (ALAP) while also hosting two theater programs Advantage Arts and The Company. For over seven years Yendor has given local and international artist the opportunity to creative public art which engages the urban community. As Yendor expands we are looking for an array of talented individuals that are willing to push the envelope forward in regards to public and commissioned art.
Programs
Mayor Ras J. Barraka’s Newark Mural Program, commemorates the history of Newark. Celebrating communities and individuals who embody positivity, protecting, leading and nurturing the future interest of Newark. These projects range from 4 to 10 months in length, and artist stipends vary based on project scope and artist experience. Past murals have ranged in size from 800 to 6000 square feet.
MuralED, experienced muralist are required to educate children within the city of Newark’s 5 wards. Providing a service that allows for urban youth to participate in the mural production process. This educational experience can has the possibility to vary in length. An example is Our summer teaching opportunities start with an 8 week summer program from 10-2pm mon - thurs. Not only does the instructor teach the mural process but we expect each child in the program to be educated in the basic facets of art and design.
Abandoned Lots Arts Program (ALAP), repurposing discarded and desolate areas utilizing sculpture, architecture and murals. ALAP provides pockets of comfort in areas in need through out the west and south wards beautifying Newark. Each mini park include community gardens, performance stages, benches, gravel walk ways and public art as a center piece or entry way.

Applicants must have experience in creating large-scale graphic or visual art, collaborating with students and community-based organizations, and a strong interest in engaging Newark communities. Lead and supporting artists will implement project according to work plan and schedule, contribute to a collaborative design process with diverse stakeholders and participate in formal approval process, serve as painting site manager, supervise students and/or community participants, administer evaluations and assessments and participate in the dedication [login to view URL] for 2017-18 projects will be selected based on nominations submitted by community-based organizations.
Submissions must be emailed “LEAD ARTIST” or “SUPPORTING ARTIST” in the subject line. PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

a. interest in producing public artwork in Newark
b. approach to and past experience in collaborative design and art making with community-based organizations
c. past experience creating large-scale outdoor murals
d. past experience working at heights or on scaffolding
e. past experience with teaching at any level
f. past experience with mobility impaired students

4. Names and contact information of three professional references
5. Lead artist must have 5 plus years of professional experience and 8 plus public works of art.
