PERL: Convert Python "Text Abbreviation" Script to PERL & Parse Data to MySQL

PERL: Convert Python "Text Abbreviation" Script to PERL & Parse Data to MySQL, the title pretty much covers it. I have a Python script that parses two input files and outputs a third. The output / result is an abbreviated text. See below for clarification. Static Files: 1. [login to view URL] - a python script that works w/ items #2 & #3 in this list to output a file #4 of abbreviated text 2. [login to view URL] - a list of possible abbreviations for many words. 3. [login to view URL] - text one wishes to abbreviate. 4. [login to view URL] - the final resulting abbreviated text. But this method didn't save much time due to the manual command line task and preparation of the input file text. SO, the BEST move is to not only convert from Python to PERL (sorry all my automation is in PERL), but to make this a dynamic automated process handled by Linux cron function, PERL, and MySQL. So I'm asking for multiple things here. Convert existing script functions from Python to PERL; Extend the functionality to work via local database queries where input would come from a specific database field, and output would go to a specific database field instead of a text file; Due to working with cron, the script would need to do an initial MySQL query of "within the last 5 minutes, AND status_abbreviation = "pending"; MySQL update / set "status_abbreviation" from "pending" to "done" when the job was complete. ######################## The script used to work like this: Abbreviations List: (now from static file to database table) California = CA Computer Aided Design = CAD (ok maybe this one is pushing it but would be nice to do exact matches) Friday = Fri. include = incl. Monday = Mon. schedule = sched. through = thru working = wk'ing with = w/ When triggered the script reads text from a second file called ad.txt. So an [login to view URL] file that contains: "Architect. Los Angeles, California. Schedule: Monday through Friday. Duties include working with Computer Aided Design software to create architectural drawings." Ends up as [login to view URL]: "Architect. LA, CA. sched.: Mon. thru Fri. Duties incl. wk'ing w/ CAD software to create architectural drawings." As you can see, this would be way better with the data in MySQL and triggering from a time & status field based MySQL query triggered in cron and capable of making / sending tasty pizzas.
