Configure Synology NAS (DS920+)

I have a new DS920+ Synology NAS up and running, using DSM 6.3.

Here is the current config:

LAN 1 (connected to Router 1): is currently connected to the WAN through a VPN tunnel (OpenVPN/NordVPN client). Its gateway is 192.168.1.1.

LAN 2 (connected to Router 2): is currently connected to directly to the internet. Its gateway is 192.168.2.1.

What I’m trying to accomplish is to set LAN 1 as the default gateway - all applications including any doing downloads should automatically use LAN 1.

On LAN 2, I have the NAS setup as an OpenVPN server (using DAM VPN Server package) so that I can login to the VPN remotely and do anything I need to do on the NAS and other devices. Port 1194 is open.

Here is my problem and what I need resolved:

1. If I setup LAN 2 as the default gateway (Network -> General), I can connect remotely with a mobile phone or laptop running an OpenVPN client software, and can access the NAS and all applications with no issues. However, all applications including NZBGet automatically download from LAN 2 with this setup. I do not want this. I want them to use LAN 1.

2. If I setup LAN 1 as the default gateway, NZBGET and all other applications use LAN 1 as they should. However, with this setup I cannot VPN into the NAS. I have tried to “Enable Multiple Gateways” but this does not help.

So I basically need to have all applications using LAN 1, except for the VPN Server application which should run on LAN 2 and allow me to remote into the NAS. All other traffic should be on LAN 2.
