I have written my auto biography and need the help of a graphic artist to do the cover design. The front cover should show a small 14 year old boy sitting on an old battered suitcase with a blanket tied to it with a belt and braces on. He has his back to us watching a bus disappear down the black, bitumen highway. The tared road is straight with five huge cover water storage tanks on the left hand side, with post and wire fence on both sides, broken only by cattle grids. These gave access to two dusty roads leading to homesteads some 500 metres in. The dusty road on his right shows a billow of dust raising from behind a Landrover traveling towards the main road, with a group of Galah birds sitting on the top strand of the post and wire fence. A mail box stands on either entrance to the farm houses, with a sign post on the left pointing in the direction of the bus stating Whyalla 30ml and Port Augusta 15ml in the other direction. From the book: DESCRIPTION OF FRONT COVER He got off the bus, said goodbye to Mr. Smith the driver, and stood on the edge of the highway, case in hand, not really knowing what to do next. Please note: Use on the wording on the attached front cover, replace the picture. Dressed in a long sleeved shirt and baggy shorts, held up by a set of braces and displaying skinny legs in socks and scuffed shoes. Small for his 14 years, he was still only 4’-10” inches tall. He watched the bus disappear in the distance, sat on his old suitcase surveying the treeless barren landscape and wondered how anything let alone sheep, could survive here with only saltbush to eat! Although it was still the middle of winter, it was a warm day with not a cloud in the sky. Properties on both sides of the road were fenced, so that sheep would not graze too close to the highway, only broken by cattle grids to allow vehicles in and out. Looking West to Whyalla, was the Morgan to Whyalla 1200 mm in diameter pipe line, feeding lifesaving water into five, huge, covered booster tanks. On his left, he could see what looked to be a farm house, and on his right another one that was set a long way back off the road, surrounded by trees, he sat on his case with a grey blanket strapped around it, trying to work out which was which. After a few minutes, I could see a cloud of dust billowing behind a Ute, heading towards me on my right.
