Magento Web to Print engine

This project is about printing greeting cards, posters, flyers and all you can imagine. We are a medium sized printshop in the Netherlands, getting into the online printshop game. We choose magento as the webstore software and have it up and running on an ubuntu Linux machine. Think of it as a vistaprint like idea. We choose magento so we can setup different stores and views within 1 system and use products accross stores... For a start we need to add the possibility within the magento webshop to edit products like christmas cards, flyers, posters [login to view URL] a WYSIWYG way. How we would like it to work: 1. User comes to magento store and chooses product. Maybe partly predesigned, or completely empty. 2. User starts editing the greetingcard: based on the chosen product, the user can edit 1, 2, 3, or 4 or more pages. Editing must include: ** fileupload (pdf, jpg) and check for right resolution. ** Positioning and zooming of the photo ** Adding text, including choosing font, font size and color. ** User must be able to change the position of the tekst, aligning, etc. 3. User works in a page with both form fields and the actual card itself. I saw systems where the user needs to fill in a form and sees the result in the next step or screen (page). That's not what I would like to see for this system. After the editing of the card is done, the regular magento checkout procedure will be followed. The high res pdf needs to be stored somewhere on the server in a way that we can see with wich order the pdf needs to be connected. It would be a good idea to take a good look on how we can setup the templates. We have an other system running based on the pdflib library, working with the block tool within Acrobat to create templates. This might be a little bit too much for a start and not so flexible. We would like a better solution. A good example of how I would like the project to work are: Top site: this is the super dooper woow that we like...: [login to view URL] We see this small project as the first step of a large development of web to print products. if this project is successful, we want to offer products like photo-books and self made magazines. Maybe A good idea to keep scalability in mind. We are also thinking of combining he shop with creating graphic products from blogs and twitters. I am sure there are developers out there who already did a project like this and I would like to hear tips and other features a didn't think of. Since we want to start this christmas, the system should be running before december 5th. I would like to have regular updates on the progress and I think good communication is very important to make a project like this succesful. We pay only a little in advance, we had some bad bad experiences!
