hi, you can check out my Hardware with qr code project on my portfolio. I suggest we use ESP8266 for this solution, as it will be more cost effective in the long run. Do you plan to run a server script on the onpremise Raspberry-pi and trigger it through an api to open the turnstile? If so let me know what all part of it do you need me built. I don't have a TurnsTile to test on, but can help you connect the device with the new hardware to control it. Also, we could as well leverage some IoT APIs to make it scalable, let's discuss on chat.

Also knowledge in Raspberry Pi hardware and software too. For your project I would like to use QR code scanner connected to Raspberry Pi via USB. Connection to network to verify QR code with DB could be done via Ethernet or WiFi. But I would like to prefer Ethernet for security reasons. To drive gate I would like to use relays to control. Also there need to be have sensors to sens gate at either ends. I could also design and make necessary circuits to drive gate and interface with Raspberry Pi. The project is more then interesting, but it needs development and tests. I am able to deliver you fully working project with working on both mobile platforms. I would use python to develop app in on rpi and use NativeScript for a mobile. How would Rpi know which qr code to generate?
