Small c++ project with templated and pure virtual classes

I need to extend a basic C++ project that currently works with simple classes, into one with class extension with templates and using some additional pure virtual ones.
Current app calculates the negative of a .ppm image. The extension of it needs to apply some filters as well such as gamma.
There is a current repo which I can share, and explain a bit more the requirements via pm.
