My Background

I was director of publishing for Disney Children’s English, Asia. In this position, I was responsible for the creation of English learning materials for sale within Taiwan. These materials were designed for the after-school English learning market as well as the public education system. The success of our program led to Disney English China. I was invited to create the Disney English China program but elected to stay in Taiwan.

After leaving Disney, I owned a language school close to Kung-Fu elementary school. I continued to work with a number of publishers including Pearson education. I helped them establish their publishing arm in Taiwan as well as redesign their Superkids program so as to make it suitable for Taiwan’s public education system. At that time, English had just been introduced to the elementary sector, starting at grade 3.

In support of the materials we designed, I also had to develop an suitable training program to ensure our materials were used appropriately in schools and to upskill local teachers of English.

In addition to these services, I offer an academic editing service to academics to assist them with getting published in international journals. That service is well establish with clients from Academia Sinica, NTU, NTNU, etc.

Currently

I live in Australia. I still teach English, design materials, and conduct teacher training. The teacher training system I designed is delivered annually in Australia at various campuses. Last year, it was conducted at Griffith University Campus. The primary customers of the course are the South Korean Department of Education and China’s provincial education departments.

The South Koreans come annually and graduates of the course can become head English teachers in their respective schools in Korea.

Future Plans: Online English Language teaching and Education Management System

Presently, I am designing an online learning platform and suite of applications for teaching English. The online learning management system will allow for remote teaching of English in classrooms worldwide. I believe this system will allow for schools in Asia to have access to quality teaching materials, teachers, and English education management.

Given the present situation with the pandemic schools in Asia will have difficulty accessing qualified teachers well versed in the local needs of countries such as Taiwan. That will require strong cooperation between service providers in country and remotely. It will also require teachers are trained in and very familiar with the materials used in the classroom. There will also be a strong demand for well facilitated communication between in country and out of country teachers.
