Game Designer and Writer
Sometimes people ask me what a game designer does. I tell them, "If the game isn't fun, it's my fault."
I have been working in the games industry since 2004 as a designer and writer, with my shift to freelancing happening in 2016 when I moved to Santa Barbara to accommodate my wife's work. At various times my portfolio has included multiplayer, systems, level, and UI design; and I have written scripts, dialogue, and textual story content, as well as providing in-studio vocal direction. I have worked on all major platforms, including mobile and console, and was the lead designer and writer on the Samsung Gear VR title "Protocol Zero". Some of the other notable credits to my name are Turok, Halo 4, and Project Spark, and I was the lead designer on the PC port of Halo 5's Forge mode.
I am a senior, experienced professional who understands the importance not only of deadlines, but also of flexibility. Games are built on iteration, and being able to adjust on the fly is paramount. I also understand intimately the interplay between story and design, and know where the give and take exists between those elements of the game.
My hours are fairly flexible, but I limit my available hours per week to accommodate projects in various stages of development. If seeking greater than 20 hours a week, please get in touch with me to determine my current availability.
