    “When I first spoke with this freelancer he seemed great, he had a lot of confidence, and stated that he had a lot of experience. I had a complex project that required a database, maps, and a lot of user and admin functionality. The system had to be structured and planned out, so that everything would work properly. Unfortunately he decided that he didnt need to understand how anything would work, how each part would effect the other parts, or why anything needed to exist for other things to exist. He instead just started writing HTML, by the time the HTML was mostly completed he proved to have no ability to build in the functionality. The map didnt work, even after a month of his attempts, the database was a joke, he didnt even try, and the admin panels were simplistic and useless. The project cost me months of time, with him occasionally writing a single sentence to me but never answering any questions, or asking any. The communication that I was so impressed by on the first day disappeared, and the worst thing is, he made me pay up front. Yes, never ever pay a freelancer upfront, and don't hire a single person to do a complex job, get a team. A team will generally consist of a project manager, a designer, a developer, a business manager, and a client support specialist. A team will generally cost the same amount but will do 10x more work in half the time for the same price. I ended up paying this freelancer for 3 months and ended up with nothing.”
