**_Project Overview_**

This is a “proof of concept?? project that will be written with J2ME (JavaME). This is part of a much larger project. If you complete this successfully it is likely we will continue working with in you in the future to complete this J2ME (JavaME) application.

We will wire an external printed circuit board to a Nextel (Motorola) i88s phone. Please see the file, “i88s Developer [login to view URL]? Yes, the i88s is a MIDP 1.0 device. We know MIDP 1.0 is old. We know MIDP 2.0 is a better environment but we will use the i88s with it’s out-dated MIDP 1.0.

The microprocessor on this external printed circuit board will detect signals that a J2ME (JavaME)application you create called “[login to view URL]? will cause the phone to output.

This application only needs to run (operate) on Nextel (Motorola) i88s phones. This application does *not* need to run on any other phones or devices.

## Deliverables

**_Deliverables_**

You will supply me with “[login to view URL]? and “[login to view URL]? and the source code so that I can use a USB cable to load the application onto an i88s phone.

**_General Requirements_**

“[login to view URL]? will have a menu called **RS-232** that has 3 choices...

1. **Every 2 sec (10x)**

2. **0.2 then 1.0 (10x)**

3. **0.2?-2 then 1.0 (10x)**

If the names are too long then please shorten them.

**_Requirements for the various series of signal_**

- **Every 2 sec (10x)**... will output a signal via RS-232 every 2 seconds 10 times in a row.

- **0.2 then 1.0 (10x)**... will output a signal via RS-232, wait 0.2 seconds, output a second signal, then wait 1 second. Repeat this series 10 times.

- **0.2?-2 then 1.0 (10x)**... will output a signal via RS-232, wait 0.2 seconds, output a second signal, wait 0.2 seconds, output a third signal, then wait 1 second. Repeat this series 10 times.

**_Testing_**

You will **not** be able to fully test your software. We will test your software on an i88s phone we have that we have connected to an external printed circuit board. If we claim that your software does not work properly then you will have failed this project. In case we make such an assertion, you will not have any way whatsoever to verify our assertion. In other words, you must trust us to tell you the truth.

If your initial deliverable fails to meet the requirements, we will give you 3 chances to resubmit a version of “[login to view URL]? and “[login to view URL]? and the source code that actually meets the requirements. Each time after we notify you that your software does not work you will have 24 hours to submit a new version of “[login to view URL]? and “[login to view URL]? and the source code that actually meets the requirements. We will exclude Saturdays and Sundays. Therefore if we notify you on Friday then you won’t need to resubmit a version of “[login to view URL]? and “[login to view URL]? and the source code that actually meets the requirements until Monday.

However, if you do not submit a working version within 24 hours from when we notify you that your software has failed to meet the requirements or if you resubmit your software 3 times but it still fails to meet the requirements then the project will be canceled and you will receive no monies from us whatsoever.
