Day and Night vision grass detection lawn mowing robot ($250)

This is a continuation of our previous project. In the previous project, robot is able to use green colour to differentiate grass vs. non-grass areas, and to change the moving directions.

I would like the robot to be able to differentiate the grass vs. non-grass areas using for example “grass patterns” or other characteristics (neural networks?). I found out that using green colour to differentiate the grass vs. non-grass areas may be not good enough, so I need the robot to be smarter.

When we use grass patterns or other grass characteristics to differentiate grass vs. non-grass areas, we will need some photos or images of the grass, thus I would like the robot to be able to take some images or the photos of the grass by itself, then use the photos or images to differentiate the grass vs. non-grass areas. One of the options is that we place the robot in the middle of the lawn, and command robot to take some images or photos of the grass, then robot uses those images to do the works.

You mentioned about “neural network” but my concern is that we need another computer to do the simulation works, and the simulation may take days to run. Another concern is that I need to maneuver the robot for ~ 2000 runs in order to collect enough data for “neural work” simulation. I like this “neural network” option but I feel this is quite complicated and I am not sure this is practical. The work seems very academic. If we have good result, we may consider to publish a paper together and I will sponsor the publication. We need to have some agreements when we do the publication together and we can discuss later – only when we have good results.

We need to extend previous project to have more than 3x3 boxes, so we may utilize the boxes to do more works, and we shall come out algorithms so robot can use the data of boxes to move smartly.

In the previous project, we were not able to command the robot to move along the lawn border. We shall get it working this time.

We need to add night vision camera so robot is able to do the same works at nights.
