My dad, who passed away the end of August this year was journaling for approximately 9 years detailing the daily life of a spouse taking care of a wife declining from dementia, until the day she passed away the end of March of this year. I promised my dad that I would take his hand written notebooks, have them typed and eventually turn them into a book. Many at the retirement community encouraged this since very little is published from the viewpoint of a care taker. Initially it would be transcribed exactly as written, a daily diary. Eventually the mundane daily repetitiveness would be combined into fewer pages and family members would embellish it adding their own details they experienced. It will be a work in progress for awhile but the end result could be impactful. I have 12 spiral notebooks, each approximately 100 pages, handwritten on each side. Some are a full page, some only a half page long. I'm located about an hour west of Chicago. I'm a daughter trying to fulfill my dad's final wish and hope I'm on the right track.
