Android Tablet - simultaneously charge and USB host using OTG cable

SUMMARY: I need a custom kernel modification to my android tablet to allow "accessory charging" mode so I can simultaneous charge and act as a USB host using the OTG cable. Standard micro USB OTG cables have pin 4 and 5 shorted, and I think i will need to add a resistor between these pins, but that is not a problem. BACKGROUND: I am currently working on a project that requires both continuously powering an Android tablet through micro-USB port and using that same Android tablet as USB host to a smaller hardware device. I researched online to find the USB on-the-go (OTG) cable with pins 4 and 5 shorted out allows the tablet to become a USB host. I have tested my tablet and hardware accessory with this wiring and it will work. However, when I try to add 5V to the USB cable to also charge the Android, the host feature no longer works. After further investigation I learned that it is possible to do both functions simultaneously if there is a 100k to 125k Ohm resistor added between pins 4 and 5 of teh micro USB cable. I tesetd this with the two different tablets I will be using for thi sproject and neither worked. From what I have read, there are Android kernel modifications required to enable this feature which is called "accessory charging". The purpose of this project is to have an experienced engineer evaluate both the hardware for compatibility and assist me in writing a kernel modification to enable this feature.
