It is very easy to detect tab or browser close, but the mechanism will depend on what you want to do with this data. Do some operations in the browser or tab being closed (hard), or sending some information to the server when tab or browser is closed (easy)

There are ways in Jquery/Native javascript to add hooks and get callback when a user is closing a tab or entire browser, or even when user is navigating away from your website by entering a different url in that address bar manually.
