Scenario: Take the submitted transcription ascii file and grade it to the master ascii file that was dictated during the test and provide feedback, perentage of accuracy, and assigne a punctuation grade based on a weighted scale.
How it would work:
1. Master ASCII file is placed in one field
2. Submitted ASCII file is placed in second field
3. A button is clicked to start the comparison/grading process.
a. The grading process would identify in the submitted ASCII file those words and punctuation marks that are not present or are in error compared to the Master ASCII file
b. Provide a total number of word errors (words spelled incorrectly, words not present compared to the master, words added that are not in the master).
c. Provide a percentage of accuracy…if there were 500 words in the master and there were 25 total word errors the percentage of accuracy would be 95% (500-25)/475
d. Provide a punctuation grade based on the number of punctuation errors in the graded document and compared to a punctuation grading scale. (0-3 errors ??" A, 4-6 errors ??" B, 7-9 errors, C, 10-12 errors ??" D, 13+ errors ??" F)
4. The program would provide two things summary documents
a. A full graded document…the submitted document with the correct information inserted where it should be based on the master document.
b. A summary of the scores and a listing of the word errors.
* If this is something that could be written using Microsoft Access’s visual basic, then it could be incorporated into our existing database system. If not, a stand alone or web based java applet would work also.
