We have a customer with an ESXi environment. On one of their systems was causing some difficulties and an engineer reverted to a snapshot he created 2 days ago. This is where the problems start. The customer put some data onto the VM throughout their daily tasks. So there are 2 days of missing changes they have made to the files within. Is there a way to restore data from a VMDK from before he reverted this snapshot? Help...

Hi, I am experiences systems/database/network administrator. I have deep knowledge of virtualization platforms including vmware products (I've been working with this line of products - esxi/vsphere for over 5 years now). Regarding this problem - official docs doesn't say it's possible to recover from the state you're having, but also don't say it's impossible. All depends on the snapshot file layout and vmware internals. I'm not saying I know right now that I will recover the data for sure, but I'm capable of analyzing the situation and giving a try of recovery (but I would need to come into some deep internals of vmware's vmdks and snapshot feature). All without worsening the situation. I wanted to be clear (I like challenges) so if you're interested feel free to ping me.
