Configuration script for Linux virtual machine

I need to have an Amazon EC2 virtual machine (AMI) set up. See this if you don't know the service: [login to view URL] It should start from a base image of some popular Linux distro, and have a script which sets up some software. The software I need running properly: • LaTeX - software to convert through the command line a LaTeX string to a png and/or and svg image. • A Django app that I wrote that takes takes a LaTeX string from the URL or a POST request, runs the local LaTeX program to create a png or svg image from the LaTeX string, and returns the image file as the response (configured with Apache). The configuration should be such that: • the machine is fairly secured against common attacks. • response times for the Django app should be under 1 second (in a user's browser). this app, when running locally on a normal laptop has under 100ms response times, so this is just to ensure there are no problematic things that cause unreasonable delays. You should deliver to me: 1. the configuration script that can set up my custom software starting with some popular OS image. (perhaps even starting with something like this: [login to view URL] or some other public AMI: [login to view URL] ) 2. a virtual machine file that can be uploaded and used straight away.
