I have writen a vb6 program which seems to “hang?? after several hours use. It seems to be a function of the number of times data is entered into the program through touchscreen(s). It is a restaurant point of sale package which becomes inoperable about 1:am each morning just before closing. Nothing is being done differently then what has happened all day. Sometimes, if I use ctrl+alt+del I can see that the program is “not responding?? at which time I can restart the program with no problem. Other times the entire system hangs and I can’t get to the task manager. Then I power off/on and am able to start the program again. It would seem that I am losing memory but on the other hand it does not seem to matter much if I have 64megs or 256 megs of ram although I do not have conclusive evidence of this. I receive no warning such as “low memory??.. The system runs on Win4.0. SP 6. Although I can network the system to several computers, I am only running one in this case to simplfy my analysis. The .exe program compiles to about 640k There are about 25,000 lines of code, 25 forms, 5 modules. The largest module that is used is about 49K. I use [login to view URL] within Microsoft Comm Control 6.0 to transmit data to the serial ports. I have tried using the NT performance monitor but cannot seem to find any memory degradation. However, I am not an expert on this analytic tool and may not be doing it right. Step 1 I am hoping first to determine that is is or is not a memory loss problem and then to find out what step in the process the loss is coming from. At that point, I would be able to isolate the problem although I may require a coder to perform this function also. I believe that this would call for an expert with NT performance moniter plus my exe program. Although I use touchscreen(s) a mouse will do to. The coder will require NT4.0 . I do not know if this is a realistic approach. Although not necessary, I would prefer to deal with someone in the Rochester, NY area because there are several other programs to be coded which may require one to one meetings. However, please do not let that inhibit you from answering this particuliar request.
## Deliverables
1) Determine what is causing the .exe program to "hang" . The results of step one will help determine what needs to be accomplished next which would probably result in future projects with the same coder if he/she is qualified for the next step(s).
