Enabling Mobile Phone OTP-based Login and Registration in our CodeIgniter Social Network Platform

Our platform is a user-friendly social network built on the robust CodeIgniter framework. Currently, account registration, notifications, and logins are primarily email-based, despite the system requiring both email and phone user details. After conducting a thorough market analysis, it has become evident that the emphasis should shift towards mobile phone number-based interactions for all user requirements. Technical Details and Requirements: 1. Implement Mobile Phone OTP-based Registration: • Task: Enable users to register using their mobile phone numbers and verify their identity through OTP in addition to existing Email registration. • Technical Approach: Develop registration forms and logic to capture and verify mobile phone numbers. Implement OTP (One-Time Password) notification and verification for account creation. • Database Management: Store and manage user account information, including phone numbers, hashed passwords, and other relevant data. 2. Enable Mobile Phone OTP-based Login: • Objective: Provide users with the option to log in using their mobile phone numbers and OTP. • Technical Approach: Integrate mobile phone OTP-based login functionality into our existing authentication system, allowing users to access their accounts securely and conveniently. 3. Notifications and Communication: • Task: Transition system notifications and communication to be primarily mobile phone number based. • Technical Approach: Modify the existing notification system to send messages and alerts to users' mobile phone numbers. Ensure seamless delivery of notifications via SMS. 4. OTP Verification: • Task: Implement OTP verification for various user actions, including account creation, password reset, and sensitive transactions. • Technical Approach: Create a robust OTP generation and validation system to enhance security and user authentication. Project Workflow: • The existing CodeIgniter framework will serve as the foundation for these enhancements. • Development and testing will take place on our staging environment, allowing for thorough quality assurance. • User acceptance testing will be conducted to validate the functionality from the user's perspective. • Upon approval, the new mobile phone number-based system will be seamlessly integrated into the live platform.
