We are running a SmarterMail 8 Enterprise mail server, and currently allow clients to use port 110 for POP. However, we are looking to close this port permanently and only allow port 995 (with SSL). Before we do this, we'd like to track and find all the email accounts that are connecting to port 110 so that we can notify them.
What we would like is some program that could detect when a user connects and authenticates on port 110 for a POP connection. All our users MUST authenticate to make a POP connection, so we are looking for some type of program that will identify those people that connect and notify us in some way.
We are open to suggestions from the bidders on the notification method. This could be email alerts to our team, or a log file, or a database update. We don't really care how this is done. We also are open to suggestions from the bidders on when the monitoring runs. You could run it in real time (as connections open, they are logged) or run it on a scheduled basis if you know of some way to parse some logs to get this information. Lastly, the type of program (programming language) is up to you.
The program must tell us the email address that was used to authenticate on port 110, and that really is the only information that we are looking for.
The server running SmarterMail 8 is running on an Amazon EC2 instance.
